The room is clean and have a nice view of the Hilo Bay and mountain. Plenty of parking space.
General facility is a bit run down. Other than breakfast the hotel does not serve other meals.

Location. The new interiors, where available, are very nice.
Renovation is not yet complete so lobby, elevators not operating very well. Our room had been renovated but the bathroom pocket door did not work as it was hung crooked. The bathroom vent did not work.

The breakfast had outstanding choices, including fruit and bacon, sadly we were in a hurry and didn't try all of it. The location was amazing, for example, a county park was just a short walk away from the hotel.

Do recommend for a walk in evening
Modern room, beautiful grounds, with fine views of the bay right from our room with a good morning walk along the water's edge.

The room was clean. The tv was good size maybe 36 inches mounted fairly high on the wall...lots of channels/cable I assume. The hotel staff were polite and tidy , very pleasant to be around...nice smiles too. I think it was pretty good quality for the price. Not sure if I would call it a resort though.
The bed was ok but not the most comfortable. The room and hallways were travertine and porcelain tile, so a bit noisy, but clean. Some of the hotel was obviously under renovation, but they weren't trying to hide it. The walls and elevators were very shabby looking. Some of the art murals on the walls seemed somewhat dated.

Nice rooms for a one night stay.
The outer appearance of the hotel was not really nice. Half way painted.

The service was excellent, the room was very comfortable, and the breakfast of fresh papaya, banana and homemade bread was delicious!

Its location and ease of use
Noisy hallways. Need to buffer sound of visitors moving through the halls. Normal noise of tile flooring and suit case wheels, hard walls and sound propagation with extended echoing and doors that automatically slam make sleeping difficult.

I stayed at the Naniloa about 30 years ago on my first trip to Hawaii. I stayed again for sentimental reasons. Nice to see that it is being renovated. The location is excellent. The memories are great. Will be nice when all the work is done. Of course, it is a different time now. I remember having turn down service with a chocolate on my pillow.
Ice machine. Had to go to the 7th floor and it was a little stinky.

The outdoor pool and beachfront access were perfect for unwinding under the Hawaiian sun. The only downside was some noise from nearby rooms, but it didn't spoil my overall experience. Definitely planning to return 🌴
